wherein the sheath design changes at the mid-point.  Facilitates rope management when top roping and abseiling.

Special End and Middle Marking (SEM): An Edelweiss concept which allows easy identification of both middle of the rope and the last six meters at each end.  This will enable a warning to be passed to the leader when the half way point has been reached, or when he has only six meters left.  It is also an important aid to safety in abseiling.  The SEM middle mark is made with an ink specially developed for polyamide and the six meter identification is via a change in the weave pattern.  SEM is an important safety aid.

Edge Resistant Ropes: It has been stated by authoritive bodies (UIAA / BMC, etc) that ropes rarely fail in normal falls and most failures are due to being cut by sharp edges.  Edelweiss was the first rope manufacturer to design, test and produce a rope to minimize the risk of this hazard.  Edelweiss is proud to be innovator of this extremely important development.  The "Edge Resistant" test consists of holding a Factor 2 fall, as in the standard dynamic rope test, but the 5mm radius bar is replaced by an edge only 0.75mm radius.  Normal dynamic ropes fail this test but the Edelweiss "Edge Resistant" ropes pass.  In climbing situations you will encounter sharper edges than the 0.75mm radius.  All ropes have their limits and you must always protect your ropes (and yourself) from this danger.  All our Edge Resistant ropes benefit from our Super-Everdry and Perdur treatments thus making them the most advanced ropes available throughout the world.

Super Everdry: Edelweiss was the first climbing rope maker to apply an Everdry treatment to its fibers.  The benefits are self evident.  Wet ropes are heavier, take longer to dry, and are more liable to freezing and stiffening.  In our Alpine ropes all fibers, in the core and the sheath, have our Super-Everdry treatment.  This surpasses Edelweiss' standard Everydry treatment, where only the sheath fibers are treated.

Perdur:  All the ropes in this catefory are treated with Everdry and Perdur.  In addition to being the first to treat ropes with Everdry, Edelweiss was also the first to add abrasion resist treatments to its sheath fibers.  Originally only in our Alpine range, Perdur is now also applied to all our rock climbing ropes.  Comparative tests show that the Perdur treatment increases resistance to abrasion by 33% thus extending sheath life significantly.

PA+PES:  Composite sheath for low-stretch ropes, combining polyamid and polyester yarns in order to take advantage of each material; results are a high resistance to abrasion whilst remaining supple in use.  Compared to a standard polyamid sheath, the shrinkage in water is reduced by a factor of 3.

O-Flex:  Special braiding process with an innovative single core element, it gives an incredible round and supple rope with excellent cohesion and long lifetime
