| Static ropes (unlike dynamic ropes) are designed to have low to no appreciable stretch under load. For this reason, they are great for any application where minimal stretch is desirable, like in hauling gear on a big wall, jugging fixed lines, rappelling, or top-rope only use (no leading). For the same reason, they are also not suitable nor designed for any leading. Static ropes include thin-diameter static cords that have become popular with many climbers as light second ropes for rappelling multi-pitch routes. For more information, see Choosing Your Cord. |
